Children's Total Balance

Question: from Alex

I was just wondering how the children’s formula was coming along? My daughter is 2 years old and right now she is on a children’s formula from pharmanex.

Answer: from Warren

We have all the raw ingredients on hand and will be doing tablet trials this week. The labels are being proof read ready for printing. If all goes well we will be releasing the Total Balance children’s product the first week of August…

This will be quite a unique formula and unlike anything else on the market today. It will truly help give children a good start to their lives and help their bodies during these critical years.

Unfortunately we cannot go as young as 2 years old with this product. The youngest we can go is 4 years old on a reduced dose.

When the development of the new products we have under way is complete I will ask Prof. Dr Munem who heads our R & D to look into the possibility of developing another version for younger children but using a different delivery system as a tablet is not really suitable for children under 4 years old.

Assuming this is viable (and it may not be) it would be next year at the earliest before the development would be complete. Sorry about that.

I'm glad to hear that, as I've been waiting a long time for your children's formula. Will the tablets be enteric coated? What about the size of the tablet? Hopefully it will be small enough not to cause any trouble for a child to swallow even if it means taking more tablets to get a full serving.

This is ridiculous. Until at least 13, children should not even be on supplements (except maybe a little fish oil). In fact, I'd argue that it may very well do more harm than good.

If children aren't able to get all their nutrients from food, as us adults, I don't see anything wrong with a good quality supplement like Xtendlife offers.

My question is will you offer just a multi-vitamin, or a fish oil type supplement? Also will you offer something like the Serenity for children? I could see this taking the place of drugs that people are giving their children for ADHD.

Hi Hector,

Yes, we had a new set of dies made up so we could make the tablets smaller for childres. That combined with the smooth enteric coating will make it easy for children to swallow.

Well 'keepitsimple' I don't know where you live but I travel the world a lot and have yet to see anywhere where the majority of children get their full quota of nutrients.

No matter how good and diligent the parents are, it is very difficult. Usually they are in a rush for breakfast in the morning, they buy their lunch or get it at school...fill up with crisps and other junk food.

How many children do you know who eat a lot of fruit and vegetables? Unless they live on an isolated tropical island and they grow there own I would think that you would be hard pressed to find one!

The reality is that degenerative diseases are starting much earlier and all of them are on the rise. I would predict that this will become a lot more serious over the coming decades as young adults are not as healthy as their forebears and a factor on this may well be due to nutrient deficiencies as they they were growing up.

So, far from it being ridiculous for children to take supplements I believe that it is being naive if one thinks that most children are getting all the nutrients that they need to ensure a disease free life into adulthood.

The level of nutrients that children get will have an influence in later life. There is no argument that even the mothers lack of nutrients during pregnancy, particularly DHA can impact on the childs health in later years.

Remember that cancers take 20 - 30 years to manifest! Have you ever considered the reason why cancer is hitting people younger and younger? Sure, there can be reasons other than nutrient deficiencies that can cause cancer, but nutrient deficiences are a real factor nonetheless.

Would you want to take the risk with your child and not ensure that they get the best start in life?

As for your suggestion that it may do more harm than good I think that you should do some research. All the ingredients that we are using are present in the food chain and are essential for healthy DNA and to help prevent free radicals, glycation, methylation and inflammation.

Hi RBC,

The childrens Total Balance is much more than a multi. It specifically addresses the needs for children and that includes their brains and nervous systems. Combined with our Omega 3 I do indeed believe that this would be a much more effective alternative than these drugs that are currently being dished out for children for their alleged ADHD.

thanks for trying Warren. I guess 2 years isn't so long to wait, I kinda knew the answer anway because ayour delivery system is unique. There would really be no way for a 2yr old to swallow it in tablet form. I will stick to my regimen until my daughter is old enough to take the total balance formula.

Thanks again,

Alex

You may be right that many children do not get enough nutrients - mostly because they refuse to eat a healthy died. However, supplements are a short-sighted answer. Good eating habits should be instilled early so that the situation above never happens. This is what happened to me and my taste is now of such a character that I LOVE THE TASTE OF HEALTHY AND VARIED FOOD and find less healthy food to taste badly. I don't like too many sweets or pizza, or McDonald's, etc. I'm a rarity, but eating habits and tastes are mostly formed early and this is the best approach for a lifetime.

i don't know any 4 year olds who would swallow a tablet. which is why all the other childrens' vitamins are chewables

July 24, 2008 | grandma

Actually the tablets are quite small Grandma and because they are enteric coated they are also slippery and easy to swallow. Remember that these are not just vitamins...they are much, much more and the ingredients would be ineffective in a chewable. Also the chewables have a lot of other undesirable ingredients such as sweeteners and colorants.

Agreed some children may not be able to take them, but then many will. That will be each parents decision whether to try or not.
