Oprah Winfrey and Dr Oz
Question: from Jas
I was watching the Oprah Winfrey show and it was about supplements. she had a well known Dr on the show whose name is Dr. oz. what concerned me is that he suggested that a person should only take one tablet as prescribed on a multivitamin bottle but should break the tablet into half and take one half first and take the other half later on in the day.
I don’t know if you know who Dr. Oz. is but he seems to have a lot of medical knowledge about many things and also has his own website and being on the Oprah show I assume he has to know what he is talking about. Now my concern is that I’ve been told to take 6 of the total balance tablets where as this dr. is advising people to break their one daily vitamin into half and to take it and different intervals of the day.
Could you please get back to me on this as I’m worried that Ive been taking too many now and why is it that you recommend us to take 6. I await your reply thank you.

Joanna will answer this. I just wanted to mention that I have seen an Oprah Winfrey show with Dr Oz in it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dr Oz was very entertaining and informative and certainly gets people to thinking which is good indeed.
Answer: from Joanna (Medical Nutritionist for XtendLife)
Please remember that Dr Oz is not a Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist but is a well respected cardiothoracic surgeon. Supplements are quite a different field and of course he would have been generalising when he made his statement.
The statement that you described he made appears to be directed to a basic one a day multi-vitamin and no doubt his rationale is breaking the tablet in two was to better spread the release of the vitamins over the day.
However, a multivitamin is a very different product to our Total Balance. All the daily needs for vitamins only (not minerals) can easily be fitted into one tablet. Indeed if our Total Balance at 6 a day was only a multi-vitamin you would certainly be overdosing on it. Of the daily dose of 6 TB tablets less than one overall is devoted to vitamins as they only play a minimal role in wellness.
The bulk of the Total Balance tablets is for ingredients that focus on dealing with free radicals, glycation, methylation, and inflammation, ALL of which are essential for good health and can not be achieved with a simple multi-vitamin.
So…the bottom line is that you can rest easy! You are not overdosing with your TB…in fact, far from it. You are simply getting what your body needs to help protect your DNA and slow down the aging process. There is some more info about this on the new website under Total Balance which you may not have seen yet.

Hello Waren,
Should we expect a next version of Total Balance some time soon ?
July 1, 2008 | Badr
Yes Badr,
We have actually begun manufacturing them now. It will take us about another 5 - 6 weeks to complete the first batches. There are a total of 7 versions including the children's one.
So, we are on track for releasing them about the first to second week of August.

Hi Warren,
I was wondering in what key areas can we expect improvements on in the new formulas?
Thanks,

There will be a total of 6 new formulas. Two versions of Men's, Women's and Unisex and one for children.
Three of the versions will be reduced to 4 tablets a day and in one bottle for the month. This is to cater for those customers who cannot afford the full daily dose and buy two bottles a month. This version will still have the full daily dose of vitamins and minerals and other essential co-factors whereas at the moment those people who are only taking a half dose are falling short in this area. The mens and womens will also have the full dose of the specific womens and mens nutrients once again to ensure maximum efficacy for those people who are currently only taking a half dose.
We are also doing a premium version which will have everything in the standard version of TB plus a lot more. Whereas the main function of the standard TB will be as a general health anti-aging supplement with extras for men and women, such as it is at the moment, the premium version will go quite a bit further. In addition to it containing everything that the standard version has it will also have additional powerful anti-aging nutrients and boost overall DNA health.
This means that the full dose will be 6 tabs a day for the Unisex and 7 tabs a day for the Men's and Women's Premium versions.
Both versions will be effective for helping deal with free radicals, glycation, methylation and inflammation.

awesome! I can't wait. My father will be ordering the current version and I'm sure he'll love it when its 4 tabs.
Thanks,
Alex M

That's good Alex. Bear in mind that the 4 tablet version will not be as potent as the higher dose one. We have limits as to what we can fit in the 4 tabs.

Warren,
I'm ecstatic to hear about the new TB formulas! I alternate between the neuro-general and neuro-memory fortnightly along with taking the full dose of TB Unisex. Do you plan to change any of the existing neuro formulas?

Hi Reagan,
We will be reviewing the Neuro-Natural formulas later this year to see if we can improve on them any further. In the meantime they are still completely compatable with the new generation TB.

I like the idea of having "a lot more" but only if it helps ME. How can you know that this helps the general population and interacts well with the other ingredients? They aren't just vitamins and minerals; they are herb extracts and we don't have a formula to analyze like we do for Vitamin C. Supplements are such tricky business - much more complicated than traditional pharmaceuticals. We often don't even know what the active ingredient actually is. Additionally, many of these herbs have not had reliable double blind controlled clinical studies and their long term effects are unknown or unclear. Total Balance already has so many ingredients that I don't see how one could reliably eliminate any potential interactions and guarantee that all the ingredients are a net positive. After all, supplements are hardly regulated and there haven't been any studies on Total Balance as far as I know. It's efficacy basically comes down to trust and testimonials (which might be placebo or paid for). Even if some ingredients have been proven to be beneficial, unless the whole product is tested together with its many other components, there is no proof it works. If there were clear and objective proof, I'd jump on this right now. When it comes to health, I'm skeptical and like to err on the safe side. I might not take advantage of some new breakthroughs, but I might also avoid some "breakthroughs" which turn out to have problems in the long run.

"There will be a total of 6 new formulas. Two versions of Men's, Women's and Unisex and one for children." Isn't that 7? Moreover, is the premium version just for those 40+?
July 10, 2008 | Keepitsimple
Correction...yes, it is 7 if you include the TB childrens which I should have done. Sorry.

You raise a good question 'keepitsimple' so I have introduced it as a new posting.

I excersise on a daily basis and am pretty tone and fit all over except my belly can and will TB help me with problem area? (i am 41 and have had 2 kids)
July 13, 2008 | michelle
Re: Liquid version. Unfortunately this is not possible. There are several reasons for this but the main one is that many of the ingredients and co-factors would become inactive if they were suspended in a liquid. For example, enzymes and SAMe.
We are working on some new technologies which may provide a viable alternative but I would expect that it would be well into next year before we perfect them...if, indeed we can. Sorry about that.
July 14, 2008 | Warren Matthews
Hi Michelle,
I don't believe that there is any really correct answer about protein. I think that the daily needs vary from person to person. Some 'experts' recommend high amounts from animal foods whereas others recommend none from 'meats' and that you should all your protein from vegetables only.
Personally I take the middle road. I eat a moderate amount of meat but lots of vegetables.
If you rely on getting your protein from vegetables and don't eat meat you MUST supplement with a product such as our Total Balance or, use an enteric coated Carnosine supplement. If you don't you run the risk of glycation which great mutated protein in your body and contributes greatly to the aging process.
There is no carnosine in vegetables and it is the only substance that will effectively protect you against glycation. You can read more about this by following the links in the anti-aging section of the Health Concerns on the XtendLife website.
I would suggest that you experiment with different levels of protein and see what makes you feel best. It is not necessary to have a lot of protein...in fact there is evidence to suggest that excessive amounts of protein could promote cancer.
With regard to your toning up your tummy, I don't believe that there is any supplement that can directly help with this. Indirectly may be. For example, taking TB will help with your overall health which may be helpful in making you feel more like exercising or focusing on your healthy diet...but, not directly for that purpose.
Good luck

Hi Warren:.
Although the TBM Plus required dose is 6 tabs/day (higherdose)- is it also possible to take just 2 tabs a day + 2 tabs of Omegas 3 DHA?
pls let meknow- thanks Jhaye
July 22, 2008 | Jhaye
Hi Jhaye,
Yes, you can take a lower dose and some people find it still OK at that level. However, TB is really not designed to be taken at such a small dose.
Next month we are coming out with a new generation Total Balance and will have two versions, one of which will be a reduced dose rate of just 4 tablets per day. It will still have the same amount of vitamins and minerals as in the premium version which will be a dose rate of 6 or 7 tablets a day.
So, if you only take a half dose of that then you will still be getting more benefits than any other supplement at just 2 a day.
In the meantime could you consider just taking 3 tablets a day of the 6 tablet a day version? You would find that quite good.
