Question: from Sandra
I am 72 years old and have had Constipation problems all my life, due to poor eating habits. Now I am paying dearly for it. My system does not work without the help of daily stool softeners. Would "Total Balance" correct that? I have changed my eating habits in the past two months, and beginning to feel better already.
Answer: from Warren
Yes, there is no doubt that Total Balance helps the overall digestive system and thus by extension constipation. It is certainly worth using not only for your digestive system but all your other organs as well. But, it takes time. It would be good to add Omega 3 DHA as well.
Psyllium is also good to take on a regular basis.
However, the BEST solution to constipation is WATER...BUT, it must be taken the right way.
The other night I watched ‘Sicko’ the latest documentary by Michael Moore. As expected it was well researched and did not do the pharmaceutical or health insurance industries any favors.
It of course focused on the negative aspects of those two industries as you would expect. No doubt there are some positive stories out there in favor of the health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies, but I would imagine that they are pretty ‘thin on the ground’.
Question: from Eric
Detoxifying the colon seems to have become one of the most popular therapies recommended by natural health practitioners. What is your opinion or research-based conclusion regarding the merits of cleansing the colon?
If you have concluded that cleansing the colon has merit, does your organization plan to provide a colon cleansing product? I think that if you do, yours would be better than any product currently on the market.
Green-lipped mussel is sometimes promoted as being the most potent natural anti-inflammatory nutrient available. I am not sure if this is really the case so we don’t claim it to be so in those products in which we use it, but there is certainly no doubt that it works well for the majority of people.
A new study from researchers at Australia's RMIT University have found that the anti-inflammatory properties of the commercially extracted green-lipped mussel to be sufficiently potent to enable them to be a viable alternative to the conventional [non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs] NSAIDs and fish oil treatment in the relief of the symptoms of arthritis. We have combined both in our GLM-Omega 3-Plus so our customers can get the both of best worlds!
The FDA released a warning earlier this month about Red Yeast Rice Extract Supplements. This is what they said:
"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to buy or eat three red yeast rice products promoted and sold on Web sites. The products may contain an unauthorized drug that could be harmful to health. The products are promoted as dietary supplements for treating high cholesterol.
The potentially harmful products are: Red Yeast Rice and Red Yeast Rice/Policosonal Complex, sold by Swanson Healthcare Products, Inc. and manufactured by Nature’s Value Inc. and Kabco Inc., respectively; and Cholestrix, sold by Sunburst Biorganics.
Question: from Terry
You may think this is silly, but if I daily drink all the water my Dr. says I should, won't my supplements be flushed out of my system before they have an opportunity to be absorbed?
Answer: from Warren
It’s a reasonable question Terry. Even if you drink excess water, and I am sure your Doc is not suggesting that, it will not affect the bio-availability of the nutrients from our supplements. The tablet will still follow the same ‘course’…through the stomach and into the upper intestine where the nutrients are released and then pass through the intestinal wall into the blood stream.
Question: from Zurvaan
We've been blessed with a baby on the 5th of August 2007.
1) What can my wife do to increase her breast milk?
2) What Xtend Life product would help her do that?
Answer: from Joanna (Medical Nutritionist for XtendLife)
Unfortunately we do not have any products to help increase breast milk. Whilst your wife is lactating we cannot suggest any of our formulas as most of them contain herbs which cannot be recommended for the baby's health. This is not because they are known to be dangerous, but because herbal preparations are an unknown quantity with regard to infant development. Until more research is done on these we have to err on the side of caution.
I was asked to write an article for Men's Health Magazine in Thailand. As it is likely to be of interest to some of my blog readers I have reproduced it here...the English version. :)
No matter whether you are 30, 40 or 50 years of age, ask yourself this question. “When I reach the age of 60 do I want to…”
Be Strong with Vibrant Health?
Have as much energy or more than a 30 year old?
Enjoy a great sex life?
Be Free from Prescription Drugs?
Never get Colds?
Have a Sharp and Creative Mind?
Be Free from Aches and Pains.
Most 60 year olds do not enjoy all these benefits! Don’t accept it if they tell you that it is not ‘normal’ to have all seven attributes at 60. It is! It is just a sad reality that most 60 year olds are in an ‘abnormal’ state! The human body is designed to function effectively to 100+ years free from degenerative disease.
