Side Effects from Crestor...statin drugs...

Question: from Joe

Hi. I am a 70 year old male. 5'10" jog regularly 1 to 3 miles. Do the 3 miles in about 30 minutes. After about 2-3 years of experimentation my Dr. finally found the combination of Crestor 10mg and Zetia 10mg, once a day got my ldl down to 70 and total cholesterol down to 135.

No problems with triglycerides or hdl. When we started the total cholesterol was >300 and the ldl was over 240. He, the Dr. is happy with the results. However, I am concerned about the supposed side effects of the statin drugs as I am very active, and do a lot of physical things in keeping the ranch running smoothly.

As a result of either the statin drug or the activity, some of my muscles are nearly always sore, and I am not sure if it is a reaction to the Crestor or due to the combination of age and activity. As a result of this uncertainty, I would prefer to keep the cholesterol level down without the crestor,

More about Inca Inchi Oil

Question: from K Ahn

1. How does the high Omega 6 content in Inca Inchi Oil make it not a good Omega 3 source (in capsule form)?

2. What research indicates that our body needs the DHA & EPA form of Omega 3 (found in Fish Oil or algae) rather than the form found in Inca inchi and Flax seed oil?

3. What is the reason for not cooking with this oil? Does it decrease the Omega 3 content or is the concern related to the oil becoming "saturated" by the heat? If so, isn't this a concern for all cooking oils?

Frutaiga...is it a Wonder Drink?

Question: from Selbourne

My friend has introduced me to this antioxidant drink named "frutaiga", What is your take on this supplement? Thanks.

Answer: from Joanna (Medical Nutritionist for Xtend-Life)

This is one amongst many so-called 'superfood' drinks on the market. These types of drinks are OK and can contain good ingredients, if you are unable to maintain a normal healthy diet with fresh fruits and vegetables. They will provide a reasonable ‘top up’ but they are very much full or marketing hype in terms of their claims.

Health Canada and Regulatory Creep...

As our Canadian customers of Total Balance know we had to reformulate this product a few years ago to conform to Health Canada’s regulations by replacing the L-Carnitine with other nutrients that would give a similar action.

Everything was going smoothly until recently when several customers had shipments of the Canadian version of Total Balance stopped at the border. The reason given by Health Canada this time is that they have decided that DMAE and Gotu Kola extract should be considered a schedule F drug. Because Total Balance contains a small amount of each of these nutrients the total product would now be disallowed for Canadian residents.

OK…back to the ‘drawing board’. We had to ‘fix’ the problem as we have many Canadian customers who depend upon their regular supply of Total Balance.

Good news for your Heart and Circulation

This week we released our new generation Cardio-Klenz! Although the first generation has been giving excellent results we felt that we could add some additional features which would give our customer’s hearts and circulation system a real boost.

We started working on this new generation about 8 months ago. What prompted the development of this new generation quicker than normal was that we see so many people forced to take expensive CoQ10 supplements because their physicians insist (often wrongly) that they take a statin drug.

As you probably know it is critical that you take a CoQ10 supplement if you are on a statin drug. This is because the mechanism that a statin drug uses to prevent your liver from manufacturing cholesterol also prevents the production of CoQ10. Without an adequate supply of CoQ10 you will actually increase your risk of a heart event even though your cholesterol may be lowered.

How to Avoid Colds and Flu's...

22117382.jpgIt’s that time of the year when those of you who live in the Northern Hemisphere will be starting to see the early signs of winter. For some of you this can mean periods of misery, not just from unpleasant weather but from colds, sniffles and flu’s.

Colds and sniffles are unpleasant for everyone, not only yourself but co-workers as well. On the other hand they are not serious like flu’s particularly if you are getting on in years as flu may lead to pneumonia. In a effort to try to avoid the flu, millions of people every year line up to have their flu ‘jab’. This has been an annual event for many since 2002 when the World Health Organization (WHO) suggested that having the flu vaccine, “would reduce the risk of serious complications or of death by 70 to 85 per cent in the elderly”.

Most governments have supported this assertion by promoting the ‘benefits’ of the flu shots widely! As a result millions of people believe that the annual vaccine will protect them, and become somewhat panicky if for some reason they cannot get it.

But…does it really help?

Why do you use Natural Beeswax?

Question: from Cherry

I could find details on the benefits of green lipped mussel extract in your GLM Omega 3 Plus, but I couldn't find out why beeswax is in the formula. Could you include the benefits of this ingredient?

Answer: from Warren

Natural Beeswax is a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever, so is compatible with the other ingredient goals in the GLM-Omega 3 Plus formula. It can also help to counteract the effects of NSAIDs (which are commonly taken by people prior to trying a natural alternative).

But, a major factor in using the Natural Beeswax is that we needed a natural emulsifier to help keep the green lipped mussel extract in suspension whilst we manufactured the product.  The Beeswax is perfect for this as it not only achieves that objective but has some additional benefits as well!

Arnold won't allow Californian Farmers to Grow Industrial Hemp...

I was surprised to see that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's vetoed an industrial hemp bill which would have allowed Californian farmers to legally produce and supply hemp seed.

Ironically hemp is the only crop that is allowed to be legally imported and yet is illegal to grow in the USA with the exception of North Dakota where the farming of industrial hemp is allowed.

This plant is not the same as the one grown as by producers of marijuana although it does contain very low levels of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the active component of marijuana. However, the levels are so low that this type of hemp would be impractical for the marijuana ‘industry’.

Industrial hemp is very environmentally friendly and has multiple uses. For more details please click here for a news article about this subject.
