Antioxidants and Cancer: Researchers admit they got it wrong!

Do you remember about 3 years ago the headlines splashed all over the world suggesting that anti-oxidant vitamins can speed up the development of cancer?  In this study it was suggested that cancer patients who took either vitamin A (beta-carotene) or E (alpha tocopherol) supplements were 40 per cent more likely to suffer a recurrence of their cancer than those who didn’t take any supplements

But the researchers who first published the study have now admitted that they got it wrong.

The researchers, led by Isabelle Bairati from the Quebec Research Centre, who published the 2005 study, have "re-analysed" their original data, and admitted

If you are pregnant you must take Omega 3...

That is if you really want to give your new baby the best possible start in life. Yet another study has established that if a mother takes Omega 3 during the latter part of her pregnancy her infant will have improved sensory, cognitive and motor development! But...keep in mind you can't use any old fish oil, nor will vegetable Omega 2 vegetable oils do the job.

It must be an ultra pure fish oil with high concentrations of DHA. It is the DHA that gives the baby the real benefits. As a side benefit it helps reduce the risk of post natal depression which is believed to be largely due to the baby drawing off its mothers stores of DHA.

Is Policosanol effective for lowering Cholesterol?

Question: from Herbert.

Can you give me the references for your statements that Policosanol is effective in reducing Cholesterol? Did you know that a study done in Cuba was flawed and a study in Germany came to the conclusion that Policosanol is not effective in treating high cholesterol?

Answer: from Warren

The best way for this to be answered is to refer to a similar question which we had back in May 2006. The answer is still the same. The study which was flawed was actually the one in Germany.

Here it is…

Headlines...big 'study' says vitamins linked to early death! Fact or Fiction?

Here we go again! Yet another negative study in the news and hyped up by irresponsible media, and no doubt fueled by the pharmaceutical misinformation ‘machine’.

You have probably heard about this study that has made headline news throughout the world today.

I asked Joanna our Medical Nutritionist to do some research into this report and give us the true story. Here it is.

Findings: by Joanna (Medical Nutritionist for Xtend-Life)

This is a very similar situation to the prostate cancer/beta-carotene study scare that I did a review and we did a comment on a short while ago. Similar situation in that the Copenhagen studies have alot of unreported flaws in them, which I will come to in a moment, plus of course, as usual, the media has concentrated on a small aspect of the studies and not the whole picture, giving a very false conclusion to what the leader of the studies, Goiran Bjelakovic, actually said conducted.

Government Health Agencies Complicit in Cholesterol Ruse?

If you or a loved one is on a statin drug, or you know someone who is I would urge you ro read the following article by Bill Sardi. There is only one part of his article that I disagree with and that is where he refers to high dose Vitamin D. It is possible to overdose with Vitamin D in supplement form but not from sunshine.

Excessive cholsterol is still a serious problem but statins are not the answer. In fact, most people can normalise it naturally with our Cholest-Natural.

It is an interesting and well written article.

Resveratrol to help Diabetes and Obesity??

Another study…in a long line of them demonstrates the benefits from this incredible nutrient. This time it is an animal one which has shown this nutrient to be beneficial in helping avoid Diabetes and Obesity.

But…don’t rush out and buy Reservatrol just on the strength of this. It is only one of many nutrients that are needed for optimal health. Also, you don’t need to as we have a generous dose of it in our Total Balance. In fact, we were one of the first supplement companies to start using it years ago…. The 32mgs a day we use in Total Balance is the equivalent of what you would get in several bottles of red wine.

Higher than normal Heart Rate...

Question: from Sudir

I'm looking for a remedy to reduce my heart rate. It averages 85-95 bpm. All my life I've had a higher than normal heart rate. In Dec.06 I suffered an acute coronary syndrome treated with angioplasty.

I refused prescribed meds, preferring herbal supplements. diet & exercise. My blood pressure is within normal range, but my heart rate remains too high. Thank you.
